Blue Jays to Use Trey Yesavage Out of the Bullpen Tonight — Fresh Off Dominant Start

Toronto Blue Jays skipper John Schneider confirmed that Trey Yesavage will be available from the bullpen tonight in Game 4 of the ALDS. Toronto leads the series, and having Yesavage in reserve gives the Jays another weapon in a must-win spot.

Last time out, Yesavage turned in a performance that’s already becoming postseason lore.

Last Game: Masterclass in Game 2

In Game 2 of the ALDS vs. the New York Yankees, Yesavage was electric:

  • 5 ⅓ innings, 0 hits allowed

  • 11 strikeouts, 1 walk

  • He carried a hitless bid deep into the outing, setting a Blue Jays postseason record for strikeouts in a game.

  • The only baserunner allowed (besides his walk) came via an error, meaning he was technically unscored on.

That kind of dominance is rare, and for a rookie in his first postseason appearance, it’s nothing short of spectacular.

Yesavage’s 2025 At a Glance & Role Tonight

  • Across the minors in 2025, he put up a strong line: 98 innings, 3.12 ERA, 160 K’s, 0.97 WHIP.

Given how effective he looked in Game 2, Schneider’s move to keep him available out of the bullpen is a smart one. He gives Toronto a high-upside option for middle or late innings, especially if the starter runs into trouble.

What to Watch Tonight

  • When will Yesavage be called on? It depends on how long the starter lasts; he might be activated early or held in reserve for high-leverage situations.

  • Matchups matter. With his high-strikeout stuff, he’s best used when the Yankees’ lineup is threatening to shift momentum.

  • Can he repeat? His Game 2 start was electric, but postseason pitching demands consistency. One dominant outing doesn’t guarantee another.

With the Jays holding the series edge, having Trey Yesavage in the bullpen tonight gives Toronto a valuable weapon. After that Game 2 performance, he’s earned the confidence of the staff — and the spotlight.
