Today we really love Shohei in his 2026 Season Debut. In his last Spring Training start, Ohtani got 11 strikeouts vs the Angels, a + matchup for Ks. He got up to 86 pitches which would make me expect he’s good for 90+ today.

Last year he had 7+ Ks in only 33% of games, however that number is misleading. The Dodgers slowly ramped up his workload over the back half of the season, increasing his pitch count by only 5-10 pitches a start. Across his 6 starts where he had 80+ pitches he had 7+ Ks in 5 of them (83%).

He gets Cleveland today who has been a K machine to start 2026. They have a 32.9% K rate vs RHP on the year, 3rd worst in MLB. Their lineup should feature 7 LHH, which was Ohtani’s stronger split in 2025 by FAR (38.6% vs 28.6%).

Books have his PO line at 17.5 slightly juiced to the over, so I would expect 5-6 innings today. Ohtani in this premier matchup should be able to clear this line with ease.

The Pick: Shohei Ohtani Over 6.5 K +104 (.85u)

Pfaadt begins his 2026 campaign at home tonight as the Tigers come into town.

Pfaadt had a troubling year last season. His bright spots though were at Home, and he’s been much stronger at home through his entire career.

Last year, this was a line that he went over in 11/16 games at home last season, averaging 5.25 K’s per start.

Now faces a Tigers team that has looked LOST at the plate to start the season. Righties to face them this season have all had success in the strikeout department…Soroka (10), Vasquez (8) and King (6).

While Soroka got through 5 innings yesterday, they still had to use 6 pen arms and don’t have an off day until next Monday. They’d like for him to get through 5 for sure.

Pfaadt looked to polish and tighten up some of his mix this offseason and it looked great in ST. Punched out 6 in his last official outing in 5.0 innings.

The Pick: Brandon Pfaadt Over 4.5 K -110 (1u)
