PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia Phillies superstar Bryce Harper has spoken out following a turbulent week of speculation surrounding his future with the team. The 33-year-old slugger expressed deep disappointment after Phillies president Dave Dombrowski questioned his ability to return to elite form following a month-long wrist injury that sidelined him during the 2025 season.
The remarks quickly sparked trade rumors — despite Harper’s full no-trade clause and long-term commitment to Philadelphia through his 13-year contract.
In an interview with The Athletic, Harper didn’t hide his frustration.
“I have given my all to Philly from the start,” Harper said. “Now there is trade talk? I made every effort to avoid this. It’s all I heard in D.C. (with the Nationals). I hated it. It makes me feel uncomfortable.”
Harper went on to reaffirm his dedication to the city and his drive to bring a championship to Philadelphia.
“I want (a championship) more than probably a lot of people,” he said. “I want to hold that trophy. On a personal level, I’m going to work my butt off this offseason again and get ready for next year.”
When asked about his 2025 performance, Harper defended his production in context.
“All players get hurt,” he said. “I hurt my wrist this year and missed a month. Of course I don’t have full-year numbers.”
“It’s disappointing to hear me being questioned about my contribution to the team. Just really hurt by that notion because I love Philly so much.”
Following Harper’s comments, Dombrowski issued a statement clarifying that no trade discussions are currently underway, calling Harper a “future Hall of Famer” and “a cornerstone of the franchise.”
Harper’s emotional remarks underscore both his passion for the Phillies and the fragility of trust between star players and front offices in the modern MLB landscape. While Philadelphia’s leadership insists he’s not going anywhere, this episode serves as a reminder that even franchise icons aren’t immune to the ripple effects of public speculation.
For now, Bryce Harper remains the face of the Phillies — and his focus, as always, is on bringing a World Series title back to the City of Brotherly Love.
