Juan Soto Eyes Historic 40-HR, 30-SB Season

NEW YORK, New York — With just 23 games left in the regular season, Juan Soto is on the verge of carving out a unique place in New York Mets history. The superstar outfielder sits at 37 home runs and 27 stolen bases, putting him within striking distance of becoming the first Met ever to record a 40-HR, 30-SB season.

The 40–30 club is an exclusive one across Major League Baseball, with only a handful of players reaching that combination of power and speed. Soto—long known for his elite plate discipline and power stroke—has added another dimension to his game in 2025 with his aggressiveness on the basepaths.

Already, Soto has:

  • 37 home runs (on pace to shatter his previous career-high of 35)

  • 27 stolen bases (well past his career best)

  • 114 walks, the most in MLB, reinforcing his reputation as the most disciplined hitter in the game

If Soto gets to 40 home runs and 30 steals, it won’t just be a career milestone—it will be Mets history. No player in franchise history, not even Darryl Strawberry or David Wright, has accomplished the feat. In a season where New York has battled inconsistency, Soto’s historic push has become must-watch baseball in Queens.

Soto’s impact goes beyond the stat sheet. His presence in the lineup has transformed the Mets’ offensive identity. Pitchers are forced to pick their poison—challenge Soto and risk a tape-measure shot, or pitch around him and watch him clog the bases with his MLB-leading walks. That patience has also created opportunities for Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, and others to cash in with runners on base.

With three homers and three steals separating Soto from history, every at-bat and every stolen base attempt will carry weight down the stretch. Mets fans have seen their share of legends, but Soto has a chance to do something none of them ever achieved.

In a year full of ups and downs for the Mets, Juan Soto’s chase for 40–30 could provide the defining storyline of the season.
