Mets Call Up Top Prospect Brandon Sproat Ahead of Playoff Push

The New York Mets are turning to youth at a critical moment in their playoff chase.

On Thursday, the team announced the call-up of pitching prospect Brandon Sproat, who is set to make his MLB debut this Sunday. The 24-year-old right-hander has been on a tear in Triple-A, posting a 2.59 ERA across his last 11 starts and showcasing the kind of control that has had scouts buzzing all season.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said the timing felt right. “We believe Brandon can give us quality innings and a spark,” Mendoza told reporters. “He’s earned this opportunity, and there’s no better test than the middle of a playoff race.”

The Mets currently sit in a tight battle for a postseason spot, and adding Sproat to the rotation provides both fresh energy and flexibility. Fans are already flooding social media with clips of Sproat’s fastball and slider, debating where he fits best — as a rotation piece or a potential bullpen weapon come October.

Sproat himself is keeping it simple. “I’m just excited to compete,” he said. “This is the dream, and I want to help the team however I can.”

The Mets have leaned heavily on veterans this season, but the promotion of Sproat signals confidence in their farm system to make an impact now. With every game carrying extra weight, his debut is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated moments of the weekend in baseball.
