Other reports have indicated that the Pirates do intend to call Griffin up for their home opener against the Baltimore Orioles tomorrow. Griffin has been terrific for the Pirates’ Triple A affiliate the Indianapolis Indians, hititng .462 (6/13) and stealing two bases.
In addition to the surprising early season call up, the Pirates and Griffin’s team are reportedly in “deep negotiations” on a possible extension. Per ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Pirates’ proposal is the in the range of the 8 years worth $111 million that the Diamondbacks recently inked Corbin Carroll to. However, Griffin’s agent is asking for a deal closer to the 8 year, $130 million deal that the Red Sox signed Roman Anthony to last season.
